Answer: The first visit is spent taking history and performing a chiropractic examination. Treatment options are discussed and your first treatment will be given unless diagnostic testing is required. Refer to the New Patient section of this website.

Question: What should I wear for my chiropractic treatments?
Answer: In our clinic males are asked to remove their shirts and loosen their trousers. Women are gowned in their underwear but can wear loose fitting shorts.

Question: What is an adjustment or manipulation?
Answer: The adjustment or manipulation is used to correct misalignments in your spine. There are many techniques but the primus is to align your vertebrae. At our clinic gentle manual techniques are used to physically move the vertebrae into place.

Question: What is the popping sound I hear when I get an adjustment?
Answer: The popping sound is the release of a vacuum or suction that is created due to the vertebral joints being filled with fluid.

Question: Will it hurt to get an adjustment?
Answer: Typically the manipulation does not hurt, although there may be associated discomfort in the following hours or days. However, misalignments that are long standing or ones associated with acute injury can cause discomfort when manipulated.

Answer: Chiropractic is a safe alternative to medication and surgery. It is recommended that you consider all risks and benefits of any medical procedure before deciding on which one to use.

Answer: Some chiropractors will not perform manipulation without X-rays, however in our clinic X-rays are only recommended in cases where they are needed to rule out serious pathology or disease.

Question: How many times do I have to visit the Chiropractor?
Answer: The frequency and duration of your care is dependant upon many factors. Some treatment plans may be days or even months, but the goal of our clinic is to promote patient education and rehabilitation in order to minimize patient visits.
